Inside the Explorer Platinum is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that makes 365 horsepower. It earns an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. This same-size engine powers the Explorer ST, but it has been tuned to produce 400 horsepower. That makes it one of the most powerful engine options in this class.
Ford’s 2.7L EcoBoost V6 is optional on all trims, save for the Wildtrak, where it’s included as standard equipment. While the 2.3 is rated to produce 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque on premium fuel, the larger 2.7 cranks out a healthy 330 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque on the same higher-octane gas.

The 2.7 has shown to be quicker than the 3.5 and 5.0 in both 0-60 and 1/4 Mile. Not not by a lot. Practically all three motors make an F150 the same speed. The 2.7 and 3.5 are nicer to drive day to day with down low torque. The 2.7 is a far superior design to the 3.5. The 2.7 gets the best fuel economy.
Throttle input from the non-EcoBoost V-6 and 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines isn't great, but the 3.5-liter EcoBoost found in the Sport and Platinum models offer better acceleration and engaging
